Semaglutide Week 1
#weightloss #nospellcheck #noai
Started the pill this week. I've been trying to lose weight for the past two years seriously. I've biked thousands and run hundreds of miles, all at 250-280 lbs. I was in Vermont for a lot of it so lots of elevation. I've had some success, but not enough to get to 220 which is about where I should be for my size and body composition.
Spent three months in Japan where I really tried to change my eating habits. With all the walking I saw some results but in the end I'd always overeat and cancel any calorie deficit I'd created.
I keep reading about the miracle of GLP1 drugs and said if there were ever affordable pills I'd take them. There are now pills, and they are now relatively affordable for me.
The first day I actually noticed a change, not sure if it's placebo or not, but I noticed not feeling hungry when thinking about food. I also found it easier to stop eating or just not being interested in finding something in the kitchen to eat for fun.
I also have been getting sick after eating fatty foods; I hear this is common. Also, if I eat a lot, I stay full for a very long time; assuming this is the slowed digestion.
I've been tracking my weight pretty closely for a few months before I started the pill and was trying to change my diet, and generally speaking it goes something like this:
249, 255, 252, 248, 255
Those jumps are when I just overeat at a restaurant or at home because we have something really salty, or after a big ride. Essentially water retention, but it can be an upward trend, it's certainly not a downward one as it hovers around 250 week after week. I essentially eat my debt.
This week I notice
..., 249, 248, 250
That 250 jump was after a mexican food restaurant, where I ate chips and queso, a beer, and enchiladas. Normally I'd have eaten all the beans and rice too, and finished whatever my kids didn't eat. This time I ate much less, but I paid for it in getting more sick than I've been all week. And it wasn't fun to eat, I was forcing myself to eat because I felt guilty for buying all that food and not eating it... I honestly would have been just fine after the queso and beer... So eating is going to take much more planning, especially if I want to meet my nutrition goals.
So even on the low dose I'm on now, I can see how this works, and I see why it's so effective.
I'm trying to eat a lot of protein and excercise so that I won't lose too much muscle. Days are looking like:
- Bfast - eggs/eggwhites/pico/beans/toast
- Lunch - protien shake
- Afternoon - cottage cheese, sousvide chicken tenders
- Dinner - however I can make up the protien
I'm a programmer, so long rides/runs over lunch and 10 pushups every 30 minutes on a timer.
So that's my plan. It's not perfect by any means, but it's something I think I can stick to for now. I'm doing this so I can live longer. I have three kids and a wife, and I am passionate about life in general. I guess we'll see where this goes. I'll report here.
